Under the motto KUNSTRASEN, the MAK will open the MAK Garden to the public on May 16, 2023. During the summer months, the green space will be freely accessible during museum opening hours (Wed. to Sun. 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Tues. 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.), weather permitting. For the KUNSTRASEN, an entrance was created directly from the Fritz Wotruba Promenade on the Vienna River and a new connecting staircase to the University of Applied Arts Vienna. The MAK will officially open the KUNSTRASEN to the public at 5 p.m. on May 16, 2023, and MAK General Director Lilli Hollein and Angewandte Rector Gerald Bast will together ceremoniously open the connecting gate. This will be followed by a music and performance program by the MAK in cooperation with the Angewandte until 9 p.m., opening the continuous use of the MAK Garden for a wide variety of formats.
"With the KUNSTRASEN, the MAK opens up into the urban space and to our neighbor, the University of Applied Arts. In this way, we are underlining our close connection as institutions that were originally founded under a common roof, and as a signal of the MAK's opening into the urban space, we are strengthening the connection to the third district/Vienna Mitte. In any case, the free visit to our garden is already one step closer to a visit to the museum," says MAK General Director Lilli Hollein.
