If you’ve browsed popular design and fashion feeds on Instagram, you could have noticed that flesh tones are more trendy than ever. Those color gradients seem like the newest obsession of our favorite influencers, but an industry linked with all kinds of taboos perfected this aesthetic for the past decades: porn, watched by all, talked by few, these rugs play between color aesthetic and graphic voyeurism. The images are very distorted making the sujet invisible at first glance; it’s reduced to a trendy-flesh-color-gradient. As soon as you distance yourself, take a picture or see it in a small scale, you’ll realize what exactly is depicted, leaving you only with the realization. The rug as an object adds the sense of touch and proximity, getting the observer even closer and the image harder to see.
